V2 PLANETARY GEARBOX

Beginning in May 2020, the subteam I led on MIT Motorsports chose to develop a planetary gearbox to enable a 4WD architecture for the FSAE competition. The second iteration of that gearbox, for use in the 2022 race - V2 - can be seen below, and is currently undergoing assembly. It features a new gear ratio of 4.2, nitrided instead of carburized gears to reduce thermal deformation post heat-treatment, and improved fit tolerancing.
